Cromford Mill
The masonry restoration of Building 18 at Cromford Mills focused on preserving its late-18th-century millstone grit structure, which had undergone extensions and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The project addressed structural repairs, including window restorations, stonework conservation, and rebuilding sections affected by previous industrial modifications.
This restoration was part of a broader effort to revitalize Cromford Mills while maintaining its historical integrity.
One of the primary challenges at Cromford Mills has was its historic fabric and industrial past. The site, once used for paint pigment production, had high levels of contamination, including lead chromate and arsenic, embedded deep in the stonework and joinery.
